Everybody, let's talk about common job interview mistakes to avoid. If you're a job seeker and, you're going to job interviews. These are for you. If you can avoid these, you're half way to pass. I'm gonna give you seven common mistakes. Let's dive in. Number one, don't say anything negative about yourself during the job interview. If you go to a job interview and you start talking all about how you fail the things and how you don't have qualifications, and how you don't have certain skills and how you're no good at dealing with people or dealing with this kind of work, that's gonna make a very bad first impression, okay? Even if talking about stuff like this is perfectly reasonable in everyday conversation, and you might think that people would appreciate your honesty.

The problem is, when it comes to making a good first impression, these things do a hell of a lot of damage, okay? So don't say anything negative about yourself during the entire interview. Even when they try and bait you to do this by asking you questions like tell me about a time that you failed something. Okay. There's creative ways of answering these questions, but not dwelling on what you didn't do, right? Focusing on good things. And that's what you're in the job interview to. To do okay. So always remember this. Number two, don't say anything negative about anyone else. Now this might sound like the same kind of thing, but actually, this is a different thing entirely.

Now, if you're in a job interview, a lot of times, they will beat you with this question, too. They'll ask you something like, tell me what did you hate about your previous boss, the most, if you start saying my previous boss, he was a jerk. What his problem was, he didn't have the first clue how to do his job, right? If you start same stuff like that, even if it's true, which a lot of times it is, the problem is that you're signaling that you're the type of person that talks about people behind their back.

If you're gonna say a bunch of negative things about your previous boss, you would probably say a bunch of negative things about these interviewers behind their back. If they were to hire you, this is what you're signaling and this is back, this is unprofessional conduct. Even if they try and bait, you don't say negative things about previous bosses, previous coworkers, customers you've dealt with, people you've had business relationships with. And the list goes on, just don't say negative things. It's part of being professional, and it's part of giving a good first impression. Uh as, someone that they would want to work with. Number three, don't show negativity or pessimism at all. If they ask you, why did you apply for this job? And you say something like i've had some real problems finding a job, or it's really tough trying finding a job. And I really don't know what I should apply for this. This is not the kind of things that we should be saying, because once again, it signals a bunch of bad things.

So don't show negativity, don't show pessimism, these will not help you. I know that a lot of times normal people feel like this, some of the time and it's perfectly justified and it's perfectly accurate. God knows there's reasons to feel that way sometimes. But in a job interview, you don't want to be expressing any of that stuff. It will not help you. In fact, it'll do quite a bit of damage. So just remember that regardless of what they say, regardless of where the conversation goes, don't show negativity or pessimism. I know it's kind of silly, but it's the reality. Number four, this is, an easy one, get your smartphone off the table.

Now I'm guilty to this one. I used to every meeting I to, I would put my smartphone on the table in front of me. The reason I did this was because a it had the clock on it, so I could keep track of time. If I said, I would give somebody half an hour of my time or whatever. I wanted to keep it to half an hour and manage my time effectively.

Unfortunately, this is bad in a job interview. It signals a bunch of negative things, okay? It's signals that you might be distracted. It signals that you might be waiting for this whole interview to be over, because you got something else afterwards or something like this. You could be recording them. You could be distracted by messages or notifications. The list goes on, just take your phone, put it on silence, so will not make any noise or better yet, turn it off. Put it away, don't have it on the table. If your phone does go off while it's in your pocket or in your bag or whatever, don't just send payments out, track each one till it arrives with pay and ear. That signals, I hate to say that signals a little bit of unprofessionalism, you need to master your own technology. So there's a pretty simple one. Don't do this. And you will do well number five research, the company and the people in the interview before the interview.

Now, if the individuals that are going to be at the job interview, before your job interview starts, research them, look them up on the internet look up, maybe their profile on linked in and get an idea of their background. Get an idea of sort of maybe if they have hobbies or important things about them.

Also, if you're showing up for a job interview, you need to know what the company does, and you need to know a few basic things about the company. If you don't know that stuff, it signals a bunch of bad things. It's signals that you don't care about this interview, because you didn't bother to take 1 minute to look up what the company does.

On the other hand, if you do this stuff, you research the company, you research the interviewers that signals the number one you're serious. Number two, you're capable, and number three, you're responsible. You're taking it seriously, and you're doing your preparation and that professional conduct. So showing up at a job interview, not knowing anything about the company, not knowing anything about the people that can give a bad first impression. And it can contribute to them eliminating you. Okay? Number six, they are probably going to ask you usually towards the end of the interview, if you have any questions don't say no, have questions prepare? I see a lot of people do this. Have questions prepared? I've done a video on that. Many other people have done videos on that think of the questions beforehand and come prepare. If you don't, it's bad. And finally, number seven, everything you say in the job interview must sell yourself, must sell you as the candidate that they should select.

Okay, now what does that actually mean when I say it should sell you? What does that actually mean? There's a lot of us that aren't sales. What am I talking about? What I is that you should be giving them reasons to hire you, tell them about what you have, tell them about what tell them about. What you can do, tell me, tell them about what you have done. These are all reasons for them to hire you.

And they'll have some reasoning why they're asking that question. But what happens is that you end up talking about. I went out with some friends, we rented this movie. I I we went to this place and we had this food. It's like, what are you doing? That is wasting time that has nothing to do with the job interview it has nothing to do with the job. It has nothing to do with selling yourself in terms of showing off your capabilities. That is wasting time. If you only have a certain amount of minutes of time during the interview that you talk, make sure that as much of that as possible is you giving them reasons to hire you, say what you have, what say, what you've done.

Anything else is pretty much a waste of time other than manners and protocol, but don't get distracted. Always remember this. In fact, I would say this is probably the biggest one. So those are seven common mistakes that I see. People don't make any of these.
