Why you can't understand native English speakers。There are a few reasons。 One， number one， we don't have enough exposure to listening to the language when we were babies， we first heard words learn to speak that really write。 But when we learn English，we often try to read and write more than we listen to enough English。You just have to get used to hearing all the words you learned listening enough English also forms a sense of how this language works。Number two，where to use to classroom English when your teacher or this recording is presenting your English，they're trying to speak slowly，make sure every word sounds clear and standard so you can understand。But no one talks like that in the real world。Sometimes words abundant，sometimes new songs are created and sometimes individual words are connected together。Number three，native speakers talks fast and funny and the they often don't care too much about grammar rules。When we speak Chinese，we also blade some words together speaking a specific accent use some new words or not strictly following the grammar rules just to make sense funny。People everywhere are all the same so oral English is way to different than read English for our school is teaching us either British accent or American accent。

The first year I went abroad my husband took me to watch the newest Harry Potter that was the first time I heard so much British accent without any subtitle。I basically understood nothing but mister potter so how to improve your English listening first think in English please stop translating every single word into Chinese in your head start training yourself to think in English。It'll save a lot of your time and you react faster understand the，whole sentence through speakers， intonation，expression or the context of your conversation。If you're running to professional vocabulary，the only thing you can do is just learn it。Even the native speakers are not born knowing everybody's gotta learn second，put yourself in an English environment without anything else。I went abroad when I was17，it was a student exchange program at public high school in New Jersey and including me there were only two Chinese students in the school，the other one is the guy so I didn't get close to him at the beginning。I was kind of self closing。I felt really lonely。

So I tried all my best to engage in hospital events at school towards when you dive into a Complete English learning2047，you immediately see the difference。

Third，create English environment by yourself watching movies，TV series or listening to music are good ways to understand English culture。The problem though is that we are often distracted by stories and melodies。There are some titles and vicious things to help us understand what's going on。So we're not actually learning you might need to watch over and over again。 Sometimes movie quotes and some Lyrics are different than daily expressions。

So a better way is simply listening to normal people talking。You can watch YouTube videos or you can use apps like candy to help to find patient native speakers to chat with listen to them regularly and respond to them。You will soon get used to the way people speak。What about English speaking？Do you feel like you understand English but can't speak？Well？Here's one number one，we started learning English without using it。We've learned many words and gr am ma RS and we were trained to get good grades，but our English speaking skills were dropped a black side。Once you make English a part of your normally dialogue or professional communication，you see the results。Number two，we're not confident in our pronunciation or accent。I've stayed in the us for 10 years and I still have an accent。I just don't feel like I need to sound exactly the same as native speakers。My accent makes me unique and that's part of myself identification。In fact，so many people run me have their own accent and we're all proud of where we came from。

So as long as people can understand you and you're able to express your thoughts accurately，you're good。How to improve your oral English first break up your comfort zone and practice every day I went to Shenzhen for a school。The first thing we did was starting all over on English pronunciation and intonation。We did a huge amount of imitation and eventually made them our own。Then I study the city planning and University of Washington。All of our major courses are filled with happy discussion and public speaking。If we don't speak in the class，we lose our participation score which usually takes about 20to25% grades。 Every day everyone had to say something valuable in for the whole class。At the end of each course，we all need to deliver a 15to10 minutes presentation on our final paper today when I'm working as soft engineer。I'm still doing a lot of technical communication with my colleagues or my manager every day。If I don't speak English for a weekend，I sometimes find myself having big time among the morning。

Second，keep meeting new people and speaking the language。When I was pursuing batteries degree or masters degree，there weren't many Chinese students in the class。I made many Asian friends because we share of common topics，but we can only communicate in English。So it helped us both during school years。I worked on campus，so I channeled with office stops a lot。I really appreciate that most people are willing to listen to me and they actually think that knowing a foreign language is a cool thing so be proud of yourself and talk to people。
